ATLAS does, on occasion, offer qualifications to the lightning protection and/or steeplejacking sectors. The current qualifications on offer are listed below. If the qualification you are seeking is not listed then please check if the Steeplejack and Lightning Protection Training Group can assist with your requirements.
Grandfather Rights Conversion Programme
Do you employ operatives who achieved their CSCS card via Grandfather Rights and who do not have an S/NVQ? If so, ATLAS has secured £420.00* funding towards each S/NVQ (maximum of 60 NVQs) for eligible operatives. Qualifying members may also be able to claim £600.00* Achievement grant from CITB (further information is available on the CITB website).
*Please note that CITB funding and grants are only available to CITB levy registered employers.
Employers must have renewed their ATLAS membership for 2019. Places are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Eligible candidates must meet all of the following criteria:
– For NVQ2 – Hold a blue CSCS card Lightning Conductor Engineer or Steeplejack. The back of the card must state either “Industry Accreditation Route A” or “Profiled Route.”
– For NVQ3 – Hold a gold CSCS card Lightning Conductor Engineer or Steeplejack. The back of the card must state either “Industry Accreditation Route B” or “Profiled Route.”
– Are currently working within the sector
– Are not currently registered for one of the S/NVQs listed above.
Applications from employers which do not meet the criteria above will not be eligible.
Please note that if your candidates hold blue or gold CSCS cards Lightning Conductor Engineer or Steeplejack, with “Assessed Route” on the back they are ineligible for this programme. “Assessed Route” cards can be renewed by taking the Anchors for Steeplejacks and/or Working at Heights for Lightning Conductor Engineers one day course hosted by SLPTG.
All successful candidates will be expected to complete by 30 September 2019 or will forfeit the £420.00* subsidy.
If you and your candidate meet the criteria, please complete the below Booking Request form. You will need to decide which qualification is right for the operative and agree to the Terms and Conditions.
Once we have received your application, we will confirm whether you meet the eligibility criteria and let you know if we need any further information. If you meet the criteria and have received approval from ATLAS, you are to contact a Qualified Assessor to arrange a formal profiling session with the candidate. A list of Qualified Assessors will be provided with your approval notification. Providing the candidate meets the requirements for the NVQ, they will then be registered to the qualification.
The Qualified Assessor will agree the most appropriate route to qualification – Experienced Worker Practical Assessment (EWPA) or Onsite Assessment and Training (OSAT). Candidates will be able to suggest which route would be most suitable for them on the Booking Request form and this will be taken into account. Further information on the routes to achieving an S/NVQ is available on the SLPTG website.
The Employer will be required to pay the Qualified Assessor their fees for carrying out the S/NVQ. Provided the operative completes the qualification and on receipt of a copy invoice ATLAS will reimburse the Employer £420.00*. For more information, please see the Terms and Conditions in the Booking Request form.
Employers will be asked to:
– Ensure that the operative completes the S/NVQ
– Provide the Qualified Assessor with suitable access to the operative to allow the S/NVQ to be completed
– Pay the fees of the assessor.
Employers must return the signed Booking Request form and commit to the Terms and Conditions before the operative will be profiled.
Once the operative has passed their S/NVQ, we will provide you with details of how to register the qualification with CSCS and apply for the relevant card.
Operatives who complete an S/NVQ will not be required to complete the compulsory Anchors for Steeplejacks or Working at Heights for Lightning Conductor Engineers’ course at the time of their next CSCS card renewal. Further information will be provided once the operative has passed the NVQ.
